More Rambling in Seville

We could easily spend many more days in this place but we are out of time and need to move on. I should give a special mention here that in Seville we have been staying at the Hotel Baco, a cute place and the best we have stayed in so far. Following are some random snaps taken during the day.

Okay, this isn't really Seville related and definitely not exclusive to Seville. But it was a nice way to start the day. And whoever came up with the idea of sticking a dollop of ice cream on top of a coffee gets my vote.

For lovers of opera, we noticed this poster of an upcoming performance of Carmen at the local bull ring. That would be another interesting setting for the opera especially given that one of the key roles is a Torreador and the final scenes are set in and around the bullring anyway. I am not sure if it is the opera of Carmen or some other variant. It is being performed later this month, so you still have time to get yourselves over here if it turns out to be a production you are interested in :)

Pushbikes (and motor bikes) are a way of life over here. People walk and ride everywhere, and the many areas that are closed to traffic help. But even the busy roads have areas set aside for bikes, separate to the main traffic and with barriers to keep them apart. The extensive bicycle network is marked out in green with proper signage. Way to go!

A mention of Seville is not complete without reference to the Plaza de Espanya. This was Spain's answer to the great exhibitions of Paris (that led to the Eiffel Tower being built) and London (of Crystal Palace fame). This plaza is just huge. But it's not just the size of it that's impressive, the decoration would also have been a huge task in its own right. Impossible to capture with my humble little camera!

I will finish up with a curiosity. We saw this in the river as we walked past. I can only presume this is for water-basketball, a game I have never seen or heard of. This is quite deliberate, there is even a waterpolo-style "court" of buoys in the water marking out the playing area. Could be interesting to watch!
