Rome

We have arrived in Rome. It took a couple of hours to get to our hotel in the suburbs and to get our bearings. We are staying in what appears to be a middle suburb to the east of Rome. It is called Nomentana, a cute little suburb situated in a bend of a river 5km from the city centre.

My first impressions of Rome were not what I was expecting. I found it a bit difficult to get around, but that's probably because:

  • It is a bigger city than the other places we've been to on this trip.

  • The place relies predominantly on busses for public transport and the information we obtained is sketchy at best.

  • The train system is slow and rundown with very poor signage. The Metro system is okay but poorly designed and badly in need of a major facelift,

  • The place seems covered in graffiti which gives a poor impression.

Having said all of that though, the place itself has a lot of charm and some trly extraordinary buildings that will be fun to explore.
